Objective

To enhance understanding and interest in science through activities including information collection, research and analysis. The competition is also aimed at strengthening students' scientific thinking, critical reasoning and communication skills. The questions for this competition would not be directly from the existing texts; instead would be specially designed to relate with application of science in daily life, and would challenge students to think on their own, based on scientific principles they have learned or are learning.

 

Target Students

Students studying in Class VIII; IX-X in two separate groups.


Target Schools

Private and Government schools in Bastar and Bhilai regions in CG.


Action-Plan

The proposed action-plan consists of two aspects, as follows…

  • Student Competition in three-stages… September-December 2009


Science Competition in Three Stages:

Tests for both Std VIII, IX-X will be conducted in 3 stages:


Stage – I: Written examination …

In this round, the knowledge of Science and Mathematics up to class – VIII and IX-X levels respectively, would be tested. The tentative-details are as under:

Test Date : 06 December (Sunday)

Duration of test : 90 minutes

Subjects : Science, Mathematics

The questions will be of multiple-choice with negative marking.


Stage–II: Activity-based Semi Final Competitions…

After Stage-I, selected students will be provided with guidelines to prepare for the semifinals. The semifinals would be consisting of scientific activity based testing.


Stage –III: Activity-based Final Quiz Competitions…

To be conducted by Dr. V. G. Gambhir (Former Sr. Faculty, HBCSE, TIFR, Mumbai).

Public program with invitation.
